The City Manager is appointed by City Council and serves at the pleasure of the City Council.
Operating under Alaska Statute Title 29, as a 1st-class city, manager-form of government, the City Manager serves as the chief executive officer of the City. The City Manager directs day-to-day operations through the departments of Administration, Finance, Public Works, Water, Sewer, Harbor, Dock, Boat Haul Out, Police, Port, Fire, EMS, Parks & Recreation. |
